Two matching salts of cauldron form with gilt interior, wavy gadrooned edge decoration around the rim and three hoof feet. The side of each salt is engraved with one ‘Saracen’s head affrontée, erased at the neck, wreathed about the temples’ [a crest consistent with the Lloyd-Mostyn family].

Hallmarks

In the centre of the underside is the Maker’s mark of upper case Roman ‘JB over WW’ in a square punch for James Barber & William Whitwell, silversmiths of York; surrounded by a Lion Passant Gardant and Leopard’s Head Crowned (sterling); lower case gothic ‘k’ (1821-3); George III duty mark.
