Description

Description: A sterling silver punch ladle with a fluted bowl, pouring lip and a pierced gallery of trefoils below a beaded rim. The bowl has applied initials ‘JA’ beneath a slender, tapered stem with a twisted baleen handle ending in a silver ferrule and twisted wire loop. The bowl interior has an inset medallion depicting a figure of a seated woman holding a stork/crane set within a border of suns surrounded by a ring of acanthus leaves.

Hallmarks:

On a small escutcheon set within the bowl’s galleried rim:
Lion Passant Gardant (Sterling); Anchor (Birmingham); upper case ‘H’ (1780-1); above these, the maker’s marks of ‘IF’ and ‘MB’ in separate punches.
